Sebaceous Glands
Sebaceous glands, which produce the oily substance sebum, are located deep in the dermis. These glands are most abundant on the scalp, face, upper back, and chest. Sebaceous glands are usually associated with hair follicles, forming what is called the pilosebaceous (pilary + sebaceous) unit. The pilosebaceous unit is the site of acne.
