Apocrine Sweat Glands
Apocrine sweat glands, which are responsible for body odor, are located mainly in the axillae (armpits) and anogenital area. These glands enlarge and become active at puberty, when they begin to secrete small amounts of an oily, colorless substance. Body odor is produced when bacteria decompose apocrine sweat, which itself is odorless.
